This original plaque belonged to the 'Cuerpo de Serenos del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona', Barcelona’s traditional night watchmen. Active until 1976, they patrolled the city streets at night, helping maintain safety and order.

In popular culture, the 'sereno' was known as the only person still sober on the streets late at night, adding a touch of irony to their nightly presence.

The corps was officially dissolved in 1976, with its 268 members absorbed by the City Council as night security officers. By 1981, they were fully integrated into the 'Guardia Urbana', Barcelona’s municipal police force.
