    MAURICE CHEVALIER AUTOMATON. C. 1932

    YEAR:

    DIMENSIONS:

Maurice Chevalier, a life-size and highly realistic figure, fills and fills his glass of champagne without ever letting the bubbles go to his head. This automaton dates from the turn of the century and pays homage to the famous French musical film performer of the 1920s and 1930s, Maurice Auguste Chevalier.

It is said that the automaton was made by Pedro Martínez Costa from a mixture of papier-mâché and lead and created for the ephemeral Chevalier Salon, which was located at Plaça Catalunya 18 in Barcelona. The cultural place was dedicated to the figure of the famous French artist, being inaugurated in 1932.
